Hands on with the Fujifilm X-E4 & 27mm
A couple of moths ago Fujifilm announced some new updates, to both their medium format line-up as well their ever popular X Series Cameras. I got to spend a day or two with the new Fujifilm X-E4 and 27mm f/2.8 WR lens and had a ton of fun.
I have been using Fujifilm X Series cameras for my work since 2013 and just always love the experience of working within their ecosystem, from the experience of using the cameras to the look of the final files, I'm always a happy camper.
This was the first time I have used a camera in the X-E series, and I really enjoyed it. As someone who uses the X-T2 (X-T3 or X-T4) mostly, it was very easy to adjust to the slight differences in button placement.
The Q button you will find is on the top of the camera, once pressed, using the front wheel for selections was easy. You can use the joystick on the back to navigate these selections as well, if you prefer. I found myself going between each option, quickly.
Since this is a smaller body you'll notice a few other changes like less dials on the top, but that is okay! You can always use your aperture ring to set aperture and then shutter speed dials and exposure compensation on the top. You can quickly access ISO in the Q menu, or maybe use the black button on the top to be your ISO button. For me I would program that to Film Simulations so I can preview Film Simulations when I move between them. Don't forget the touch screen and functions there you can program too!
With my other Fujifilm Cameras I almost always use the viewfinder to compose my images, in working with the X-E4 I did find I used the screen more, no idea why, it's just how I was shooting. A note on the screen, it tilts in awesome ways to let you shoot from the hip or hold your camera up for some extra reach or even for awesome selfies.
How about the new 27mm f/2.8 WR lens?
It's pretty awesome! I have always wanted this focal length on the Fujifilm system, but prefer having the aperture rings on my lenses, and this new 27mm has one!
Here are some photos I captured in in Seattle with this little duo, I have to say, if i were going to buy one of these I'd definitely add the little grip kit, it just helps me with the balance of the camera.🙂
