Hands-on with the Fujifilm X-S10

Today Fujifilm announced a new camera in their X Series line up, the Fujifilm X-S10. The price point for this camera is kinda crazy low when you consider what’s packed into its teeny body. I say teeny because it’s smaller than the X-T4, but offers a lot of the tech in the X-T4. It weighs about 465g, body only, and starts at $999 (body only).

Some of those tech specs:

  • 26.1 megapixel, backside illuminated X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and quad-core X-Processor 4 CPU

  • 180° vari-angle LCD touchscreen

  • Five-axis in-body image stabilization (what??!)

  • Bluetooth

  • Uses the NP-W126s battery (same as X-T3, X100V, etc…)

  • And much more!

I was impressed with the feel of this smaller body when I had a chance to take it for a spin. I really enjoy the experience of working with bodies like the X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, and while this new X-S10 is smaller, it still felt really good and solid.

You could pair this camera up with any of the XF, XC, or MK lenses. This provides a broad spectrum of options for both photography or video. This would be a great camera for someone ready to make the jump to Fujifilm, or perhaps you have been considering upgrading from an older body or picking up a second body as a backup.

After using it, I immediate thought of that last option, adding it to my existing kit as a back up body, knowing, I’d probably shoot with it a lot.

This would also be a fantastic option for those of you out there getting into shooting more video, vlogging or live streaming.

Like other Fujifilm cameras, you have essentials like Film Simulations, easy quick access features for your ISO selection, Q (quick) menu, exposure compensation dial, etc…

One of my joys in working with the Fujifilm system, even with a new body, new design, buttons and dials potentially in new places, it is that it is so easy to get started. Period. I’m looking forward to getting some more time in with this little gem soon.

Read more about the camera and see the full announcement from FUJIFILM.

Here is a sampling of images I captured of miss Kate Lynn Grimm. This was a fun, brief session, which resulted in a lot of great images. For several photos, I incorporated the OMNI Filter Kit to add some flair and texture. These are all JPGs edited in Exposure X5.
