Morning Light

Get Up Early...That's right. Some days you have to get up early if you want to take cool pictures.Literally cool pictures, as the light tends to be cool in the early morning. If you have scoped out a location that you want to photograph, think about the light and when it's going to be best for your main subject. Most often the morning and evening light is the best, but sometimes you want to get to your location super early to capture the light before sunrise. Or stay beyond sunset to photograph into the Blue Hour.I recently took part in a workshop with Elia Locardi. Elia was in Dubai for Gulf Photo Plus' Annual Photo Event. He lead two workshops on Urban Landscapes and one about Desertscapes.2016_0206_GPP_KateHailey_223In the middle of the week I got up at 3:30 am to meet up with folks and get to our rooftop location by 5:00. Whoa. Some people get to bed at 3:30 after partying all night, hahaWe were able to arrange rooftop access to a place with quite a view of the Dubai Skyline. For these situations you'll want to do things like:

  • Bring a tripod
  • Bring all your batteries (verify they're charged!)
  • Bring a wide angle lens

These tools will help you capture longer exposures and line up your horizons.IMG_7218The Light Started Light This2016_0206_KHH_Locardi_012Shifting To2016_0206_KHH_Locardi_017Shifting To2016_0206_KHH_Locardi_151And Wrapping Up2016_0206_KHH_Locardi_221Not a bad way to spend a morning, eh?
