hipstamatic in black and white

So, I'm playing a bit of catch up. Last week was a week of mostly monochrome images where I used a combination of two apps, Hipstamatic and Noir Photo. I dud get the Noir Photo post done and now want to spend a little time with Hipstamatic. For at least a year or two I have been using Hipstamatic, a lot. First, I'm a fan of the square format, second Hipstmatic offers some cool features. This is a camera replacement app, so if you want to use the filters you have to shoot with the app. The app starts out with a small collection of film types, lenses and flashes. Through the Hipstamart you can occasionally buy add on HipstaPaks. Some of the HipstaPaks are only available for a limited time. But sometimes, Hipstamatic will bring them back, giving customers an opportunity to get a pak they may have missed.Having been a user of the app for some time, I have managed to acquire all of the paks, this makes for a lot of lens, film and flash options, however I just wanted to take a moment to share a few fun black and white combinations.Lens: MelodieFilm: AO BWFlash: OffLens: MelodieFilm: BlackKeys SuperGrainFlash: OffLens: MelodieFlim: BlacKeys B+WFlash: OffLens: MelodieFilm: Claunch 72 MonochromeFlash: OffThere may well be a hundred Lens/Film/Flash combinations, if not more. The above examples are with the Melodie Lens, a personal fave that often does well with Black and White images. If you use other Lenses with any of these films you may well achieve different results. My go-to, black and white, Lens/Film combo in Hipstamatic is the Melodie Lens with the Claunch 72 Monochrome film. I tend to shoot with the flash off, almost always. And there are more options available than those listed here.If you're a fan of black and white you may well enjoy what this app has to offer. And if you enjoy playing in both colour and black and white, I would bet you'd like it even more, as the colour film options are pretty rad. I'm hopeful to do a follow up to this, that is a more in-depth look at Hipstamatic. If you're interested in seeing what other folks are doing with Hipstamatic, check out the Hipstmatic Flickr Group. And cheek out this pretty rad Hipster Field Guide PDF of what many of the filter combinations will do (not just black and white). Also here's one more great resource for Hipstamatic Combinations!
