Travelogue: Alexandria & Loch Lomond, Scotland

4 November, 2024

There’s so much to love about Scotland but not much beats the view of a loch and the mountains on any given day. On this journey in the fall of 2024, I had more overcast days than you would in spring, but I didn’t mind. I live in the Pacific Northwest which means I have more gray days than sunny throughout the year, especially in fall/winter.

From Stirling, head west towards Alexandria, there are two routes, on major roads. I opted for the southern route, as it was just a slightly closer drive to my lodging for the night, on the south end of the loch.

Once I got to the area, I parked my car at my hotel and went for a walk. I remember being excited to explore the area again, as it had been almost ten years since my previous visit to this part of Scotland.

Along the path from the parking lot, to the wooded area, there are trees, paddle boats, a couple of café options, as well as a few shops for the locals or tourists.

It was an overcast, sort of misty, but not foggy day. The path from the parking area curves around part of the loch towards a beach with a blend of sand and rocks. In the distance, you could see the remains of some pilings. I took some time in that spot with that view. Using both my Fujifilm X-T4 and some creative compositions, as well as my iPhone.

After I spent some time just walking around the loch, I headed back to my car to check into my hotel. Found some dinner and relaxed for the evening.

The next day’s plans include a short drive through Luss, towards the middle West Bank of Loch Lomond, and on towards Glencoe.
