3 Tips for Better Night Photographs

Cities look so different at night! They light up in a new way. The scenery can be barren or bustling.

As a traveller, I love to capture cities in the evening, at sunset, into blue hour and the night. If this is a genre you’ve been curious about… check out these tips and the video below.

Tripod is Queen!

Having a sturdy tripod, designed to hold your heaviest camera/lens combo ensures sharp images. My go-to brand is 3 Legged Thing. My tripod, Brian, has been in my life going on 9 years and is as solid as the day I got him.

LOW ISO!

Keep that ISO low, I always recommend using your Native ISO, for most cameras this will be between 100-200. If you aren’t sure what your native ISO is, open a new tab and do a quick search for your camera model number and the phrase “Native ISO” to find out. Low ISO means less noise, which means sharper-looking frames. This will also mean slower shutter speeds.

Wide-Angle Lens.

Show all the things, Look for leading lines or cool patterns or make some fabulous light trails.
