Lizzi - A Portrait Series

As a photographer, some of the work I am hired to do isn’t terribly interesting. And that’s ok. I think anyone who has a job, has moments or realisations that some day to day tasks just aren’t terribly exciting!

As a creative, this can make you a little nutty though, right? Those mundane tasks like email, or even doing posts on social media, start to wear you down and you move further and further from the creative process.

Some days, it’s too easy to let that rut take over, I am constantly reminding myself I need to create for me, I need to collaborate more. Recently, I was able to get something going that simply put, was a ton of fun!

I connected with a lovely talented lady, Elisabeth Jackson, we met for coffee, had a great chat, shared some inspiration and made a plan! She had a connect to a MUA, Katy Marie, she’d worked with before and we were good to go.

Lizzi, grew up in the Pacific Northwest but just moved to Australia (I’m completely jealous of course)! She’s a business coach and just a really lovely spirit. As you can see in this series of images.

on the images... and the gear...

While the monochromatic look was planned, we really managed to get to match so well.

In my brain I had all these fancy lighting setups, but when it came down to it, I kept things pretty simple.

Each image was lit with 1-2 Speedlights, the Nikon SB910's. On each I alternated between two Westcott modifiers, the Apollo 43” Orb and the Joel Grimes Beauty Dish. For a few frames, I added a MagMod grid and creative gels to make a fabulous glow and inject some complimentary colour.

All these images were captured on the Fujifilm X-T2 with either the 35mm f/1.4 or 56mm f/1.2 lens. I tethered directly into Capture One Pro using a Tether Tools cable. After the session I edited all of the images in Capture One Pro 12.

interested in a collaboration?

I am continually seeking the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of other creatives, in front of and behind the camera. If you're an artist, writer, photographer, model, etc... and would like to collaborate on something, please send me an email (info@katehailey.com) or a message on IG!
