Quick Tip: Composition - Horizon, keep it straight buddy!
This is a pet peeve, right? Do you feel your world is slightly askew when you view this? What was I thinking?!! I certainly don’t know. Keeping the horizon straight is definitely something I try to do in camera. We’re not perfect, we can miss it from time to time. It’s widely held that images should have a straight horizon. Why? Because you don’t want to feel like you’re falling over when you look at an image. How can you combat this?Look for a grid in your camera’s (or iPhone’s) menu system and turn it on. Use the lines of that grid to help you keep your horizon straight when you’re capturing an image. Can you fix it in post-production? Of course, by why not get it right in camera first. Save yourself a step an a little time on the computer. This is me setting things straight in Lightroom.Much better right? Now wishing I’d paid attention when I captured this image in Loch Lomond, Scotland. But that’s ok. My mistake makes a nice little blog post!Final image captured with the Fuji XT-1, no other edits but to fix the horizon.Always remember, a rule is just a rule, and really I suppose this is a guideline. :)If you want to make your horizon crooked, do it with purpose and reason. That's all I'm really saying!~ kate
